Join this Old San Juan community walking tour, where you will depart with your knowledgeable tour guide on foot to visit the colorful community of La Perla. Visit the only basketball court in the world surrounded by a historical wall that is protected as a world heritage site by UNESCO. You will also see one of the first Head Start centers, a program created by the late mayor of San Juan Felisa Rincón de Gautier, and later implemented in the USA. Then, use your hearts and souls by lending your time to the local community for some much needed support with their initiatives, after all the damage sustained by hurricanes Irma and Maria. Your experience here will give you the opportunity to make meaningful connections with the people of Puerto Rico while supporting their community efforts. This specific project will change depending on the community needs, and may include some hands-on tasks like cleaning, preparing or planting a variety of native, endemic trees that are in danger of extinction. It can also include planting lovely flowers to restore the city's landscape and help make San Juan beautiful again.
