Colombia is home to some of the most diverse music and dance in the world and this cultural event showcases some of the different musical styles with a focus on the unique music of Vallenato which involves vocals, accordions, drums and dance. Departing from the port by motor coach we drive along the seafront before taking a short walk to “Lovers Park” and the air-conditioned venue for the cultural event. We start with an authentic live Vallenato show presented by “The Batey All-Stars,” where you will get a taste of classic vallenato music. After the show, there will be a short explanation of the music and also of each instrument used to create the sounds of Vallenato, and other Latin musical styles such as Son, Puya, Merengue and Paseo. During this lively & fun experience enjoy a refreshment of traditional Caribbean food of fried green banana pancakes with a savory topping, washed down with a fresh tropical fruit cocktail. There will also be the opportunity to learn to some of the dance steps and play different musical instruments. We then take a short guided walk through the historic & colorful city streets of Santa Marta with a visit to the Gold Museum, which houses an impressive exhibition of gold and other artifacts from the pre-Colombian indigenous cultures. Afterwards, we make the short walk to the port entrance to board the shuttle service for the 5 minute drive to the pier. Music and dance are an integral part of Colombian society and this experience is a very special opportunity to become a part of that society if only for a few hours, but the memory will last much longer.
