Your guided city walk starts in the center of Ghent, at St. Michael’s Bridge. Here you will be instantly enthralled by the town’s architecture, including the 292-foot-tall Saint Bavo’s Cathedral, whose greatest treasure is the “The Adoration of the Mystic Lamb.” Painted in 1432 by Hubert and Jan Van Eyck, this intricate altarpiece consists of 24 compartmented religious scenes. Upon arrival in Bruges, you will stroll through the charming cobbled streets, passing the marketplace with its impressive Guild Halls and the Belfry, a medieval bell tower that stands 270 feet high. You’ll also see the Town Hall, Our Lady’s Church and the 12th-century Gothic Basilica of the Holy Blood (exterior view only). Then savor a delicious three-course lunch at a nearby restaurant before enjoying a scenic canal boat cruise along the city’s romantic canals. You’ll have time to browse for fine Belgian chocolates, tapestries and Flemish lace before heading back to the ship.
