This wonderful day of sightseeing in Bruges is yours to shape and enjoy. Known as the “Venice of the North” due to a network of beautiful canals, the city has an array of world-famous landmarks and scenery to explore. You will be escorted by your guide to the Walplein — a pretty, cobbled square in the center of town. After a brief orientation, you will have around 5 hours to enjoy the city on your own. You can choose from several landmarks — such as a visit to the Church of Our Lady, whose altar holds Michelangelo’s sculpture “Madonna and Child”; the Basilica of the Holy Blood; or the impressive Town Hall on Burg Square. If you’re feeling active, you may wish to climb the Belfry, a medieval bell tower; rent a bicycle; or even take a ride on a horse-drawn cart. You may also want to shop for local goods — including Flemish lace, fine tapestries or fine Belgian chocolate. Later, meet your guide at the agreed set time in Walplein to head back to your ship.
