Malta’s Noble Heritage

Depart quay accompanied by a guide and drive to Naxxar for a visit of Palazzo Parisio – a unique 19th century palace in the heart of the Mediterranean. Palazzo Parisio is exceptional in more senses than one. It is lavish and sumptuous and in it you shall be able to see, not just another palace of the legendary and romanticized Knights of St. John, but, quite differently, the ultimate memorial of ambitions, aspirations and pretensions of a 19th century noble family. It is also a Palazzo of outstanding splendor with two very beautiful baroque walled gardens, including a lovely orangerie – a miniature Versailles. Proceed to San Anton Gardens, which was laid out by Grand Master Antoine de Paule as grounds to his summer residence, San Anton Palace. From 1802 until 1964, San Anton Palace was the official residence of the British Governor, after which it remained a state building and is now the residence of the Maltese President. Various heads of state have visited the gardens over the years and numerous plaques mark their ceremonial tree planting. The garden is a botanical delight with mature trees, old stone urns, fountains, ponds and formal flower beds. The garden is formal with rustic touches and holds a wide variety of plants and flowers, such as jacaranda trees, Norfolk pines, bougainvillea and roses.

Continue with a drive to Valletta, the capital city. Walk to Casa Rocca Piccola, home of the 9th Marquis and Marchioness de Piro, where you will be met by the owners of the house today.
