Details

Enjoy this rare opportunity to visit a community living in harmony with its environment on the brink of the inhabitable world. Admire the stunning views as you fly over the Arctic Circle to Grimsey – Iceland’s northernmost inhabited island. Covering an area of only 2 square miles, the island is small enough to easily be explored on foot. The island's sheer cliffs are home to huge colonies of sea birds and, in summer, the intrepid islanders rappel down the cliff faces to collect the eggs that are considered a local delicacy. An interesting and informative guided walk around the island will reveal the highlights of this fascinating community before boarding your plane back to Akureyri. Certificates are awarded for crossing the Arctic Circle.
