Ride the Madeira Cable Car from Funchal to Monte, a civil parish that is surrounded by amazing views of the city from over 700 feet in the air. Once there, you’ll tour Our Lady of Monte Church and see its beautiful interior with a statue of Our Lady of Monte, the patron saint of Funchal, sitting above the altar. The church also contains the tomb of Emperor Charles I, the last Hapsburg monarch, who died in exile in Madeira in 1922. After your visit, get ready for a thrilling ride as you climb into a wicker basket and experience the island’s famous toboggan ride, also known as the “Snowless Sled Ride.” Following your sled fun, you’ll head to a Madeira wine lodge that features some of the world’s oldest and most complex wines. Learn about the different types of Madeira wines and sample two varieties. Perhaps, purchase a bottle of wine before your departure back to the ship and reminisce about Madeiran culture as you sip your wine back home.

Good to Know: The sequence of stops may vary by tour. Due to scheduled services, Our Lady of Monte Church may not be available to visit inside. The Toboggan is a popular attraction and there may be queues before boarding. There is a five-minute walk from the bus stop to the wine lodge. Gravel paved and cobbled terrain with steps at various venues.
