Details

Helsinki's tree-lined avenues, graceful parks and distinctive architecture are wonderful attractions best discovered on foot. Your motorcoach will take you from the pier to Senate Square. This historical square dates to 1778 and is surrounded by the Main Lutheran Church, the Senate Building, and the university with its neo-Classical atmosphere. From here, you will walk with your guide by the central railway station of Eliel Saarinen and see the National Theater and Sanoma Talo. Continuing, you will pass the formidable buildings that dominate the Helsinki skyline. Pass Kiasma, the museum of contemporary art that opened in 1998, the Finlandia Congress Hall, the National Museum and Parliament House. A flavorful cup of coffee or tea will be served with a pastry at a local café, before you continue your walk up to the Töölö residential area, through the Hesperia Park. Here, you will see and visit the famous Rock Church, a magnificent modern-day structure built entirely of bedrock and quarried stone. From here, your motorcoach will take you back to your ship.

Notes

This excursion may operate in reverse order. If there is a special function being held at the Rock Church, inside visits will not be possible. Walking will be for approximately 4 miles and may be over cobblestones, so comfortable shoes are recommended. When this tour is operated as a morning departure, guests who wish to stay downtown at the end of their excursion may do so and will be responsible for their own transportation back to the ship.
