Enjoy the main highlights of Helsinki, from the comfort of your motorcoach, on this panoramic tour of the capital of Finland, also fondly known as the White City of the North. Leaving the harbor, you will pass the colorful open-air market on your way to a photo stop at the Senate Square, with the elegant Lutheran Cathedral, university, and Senate buildings. En route to the square, you will pass the Uspenski Cathedral and see the icebreakers docked for the summer season. Then, it’s on to Mannerheim Street, the main street through the city, where you can see the Parliament House, the National Museum, and Finlandia Hall, which is the concert and convention center designed by the famous architect Alvar Aalto. You will also pass the new contemporary art museum, Kiasma, designed by the American architect Steven Holl. You will continue, passing the Olympic Stadium, the venue for the 1952 Olympic Games, and the new opera house completed in 1993. Then, it is on to the Sibelius Park, where you can photograph the monument of some 600 steel pipes, which honors the great Finnish composer Jean Sibelius.
When this tour is operated as a morning departure, guests who wish to stay downtown at the end of their excursion may do so and will be responsible for their own transportation back to the ship. This excursion may operate in reverse order and is predominantly panoramic, except for two photo stops, so it is ideal for guests with walking difficulties.
