A 90-minute journey by coach brings you to the Old Town of Lübeck, once known as the Queen of the Hanseatic League. Today, this Free Imperial and Hanseatic City is steeped in history and tradition. An English-speaking escort will accompany you during the coach ride from Kiel to Lübeck, where you will meet your local walking guide. You’ll start your walking tour in Old Town Lübeck. Located on an oval-shaped island, this is one of the most impressive, intact collections of medieval Gothic architecture. You'll also enjoy the medieval ambiance of the Altstadt, with its well-known Holsten Gate. Lübeck’s historic patrician houses and redbrick churches are a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You will walk past the Gothic Rathaus (City Hall) and the Heiligen Geist Hospital. You’ll also see Buddenbrooks House — home of the famous writers Heinrich and Thomas Mann. Your guide will also point out some of the city's 82 quaint alleyways. You’ll then visit the Niederegger Café to sample coffee or tea as well as Niederegger's popular marzipan gateau. Lastly, you'll enjoy some free time to explore the shops in Lübeck or to visit St. Mary's Church on your own before returning to the ship.
The order of the tour may vary. Public restrooms are available but require local coinage to use (approximately €0.50 - €1.00).
