Discover ancient Braga, one of the oldest cities in Portugal. Today it is a lively city full of culture and history. Travel to Bom Jesus do Monte Sanctuary, located on a hilltop on the outskirts of Braga. Built in the 18th century, the church has an impressive baroque stairway known as The Sacred Way, which is made of dark granite and covered in bright white plaster. The stairs ascend 381 feet up the hillside, and penitent pilgrims would climb the steps on their knees as a religious experience to reach spiritual clarity. At the top of these stairs, you will find striking views of the surrounding countryside at the summit. After descending, you will continue toward the city center of Braga to visit another highlight of Braga, its impressive cathedral. Braga Cathedral was built in the late 11th century on the site of the Church of Santa Maria, which had been destroyed by the Moors. After your guided tour, enjoy some free time to explore the quaint streets of Braga on your own before returning to your ship.
