Oporto, Portugal’s second largest city and port, is both the collegial and Episcopal site as well as the trade and industry center of the country. This tour will take you into the heart of the city, also known as the “City of Granite,” because of its great use of granite in its architecture. As a result, the city has a grandiose appearance that contrasts with the golden shimmer of the Douro River. Your motor coach will take you to Cordoaria for a photo stop in front of the Clérigos Tower. Designed by the architect Nicolau Nasoni, it has an exterior that was once the tallest structure in Portugal. After some free time, continue past Santa Catarina Street and the Cathedral towards Aliados Avenue. From there, you will have some free time to explore the beautiful São Bento Railway Station. Created by Jorge Colaço, its walls contain over 20,000 beautiful tiles that tell the story of Portugal, including its history of transport and the battle of Aljubarrota. You are also welcomed to enjoy a stroll through the local shops nearby. After your tour, you will head back to the ship.
