From Reykjavik, your tour begins as you drive over the Mosfellsheidi heath to the beautiful Þingvellir (Thingvellir) National Park, known for its distinctive geological significance. You will make a short stop at the park’s overlook for some spectacular views and take in a little bit of history before continuing past Iceland‘s largest natural lake, Þingvallavatn (Thingvallavatn). As you ride across the rift valley, you will be traveling from one continent to another as you cross the rift zone that slices from northeast to southwest. Here you will see both the European and North American tectonic plates; this is the only place in the world where tectonic plates are above sea level and visible to the eye. Next, you’ll drive to Fridheimar Horse Park and Greenhouse. The owners will introduce you to Icelandic agriculture and its local greenhouse production. In the greenhouse, amidst the aroma of fresh tomato plants and the buzzing of worker bees, you will enjoy the tropical warmth and savor a delicious tomato soup lunch. Afterward, take a short drive to the Secret Lagoon in Fludir — a hot spring which uses the natural resources of the nearby area with high geothermal activity. It is the oldest geothermal pool in Iceland, built in 1891. Have a unique experience relaxing in the warm water surrounded by several geothermal spots and the Geysir, which erupts every few minutes. On the way back to the pier, you will pass volcanic phenomena: craters, lava fields and hot springs. You will then make your way back over the Hellisheidi heath to Reykjavik.
