Experience Bergen on a scenic tour and drive to Troldhaugen, the former home of the famous Norwegian composer Edvard Grieg. You will board your motor coach for a narrated drive through Bergen seeing the old medieval city. Highlights include the 13th-century King Håkon's Hall and the 16th-century Rosenkrantz Tower. You will also get a chance to explore Bryggen, a major trading center for the medieval Hanseatic League, where a line of recreated period buildings are protected by UNESCO because of their historical significance. You will also pass the Torget fish market and Grieg Hall, the city's concert hall. Continue driving through Bergen's suburbs en route to Lake Nordås and Troldhaugen. Troldhaugen is considered a national shrine, housing the grave sites of Grieg and his wife, who lay side by side. Tour the house and see the hut where Edvard Grieg composed many of his works. As a special treat, you'll attend a professional piano recital at the concert hall that may include some of his most popular works. Grieg is best known for his Piano Concerto in A minor, In the Hall of the Mountain King and for a collection of piano miniatures known as Lyric Pieces. After the piano recital, you continue your tour with a 45-mintute guided visit to Fantoft Stave Church and learn about its history and see its beautiful architecture.After this adventure filled day, you will return to port.
