Aviarios del Caribe Sloth Rescue Center: Visit the organization devoting its efforts to provide a haven to sloths that need shelter because of loss of habitat. Be introduced to the center and the research done by the Arroyo family, founders of the center. You will visit their sanctuary to see up-close the enigmatic sloths, learn about their living habits, unique personalities, and their stories and hopes for their future.

Cahuita National Park Walks: This park is famous for its pristine beaches and bountiful rainforests. It is considered by many to be “the jewel” of Costa Rica’s Caribbean Region. It is a 1,100 hectares (2,771 acres) reservation, and protects beaches, lowlands, and nesting grounds for sea turtles. You can walk the natural trails, where you may encounter various types of wildlife, including howler and white-faced capuchin monkeys, raccoons, sloths, and birds such as the green ibis, kingfishers, yellow-crowned night heron, frigate bird, and boat-billed heron.

Cahuita Village: Visit and explore Cahuita Village shops, where you can appreciate the handicrafts by local artisans. Visit their restaurants where you can purchase snacks and refreshments before returning to your ship.

Notes

Requirements & Restrictions: Minimum age – 6 years. For safety reasons, guests with mobility difficulties may not participate in this excursion. There are 14 steps that must be climbed at the Chauita National Park. No swimming allowed at the beach during this tour.

What to Bring: Rain gear, sunblock, water for your walk inside the park, insect repellent, and a fanny pack to carry any valuables.

Good to Know: Wearing comfortable clothing and walking shoes are recommended. Park has gravel trails and uneven surfaces.
