Departing the wharf, you will head for Noumea’s residential area and Ouen toro look out point for an overview of the lagoon surrounding Noumea. Onto the modern state-of-the-art aquarium where natural; saltwater is pumped up from the sea. In this showcase of the New Caledonian lagoon, discover the splendour of the coral reefs and its inhabitants: angel fish, napoleons, gorgonia, striped fish, fluorescent corals and none other than a live prehistoric nautilus. Known to be related to the octopus, it is the only cephalopod to have a true external shell. The form of the shell itself has fascinated naturalists, mathematicians, and physicists for years. The spirally coiled, chambered shell is perfectly proportioned. The Noumea Aquarium is one of the only places you can see the Nautilus in the world. Then enjoy approximately two hours of free time at Lemon Bay to swim, mingle with locals or relax with a coffee or a Gelato from one of the sidewalk cafes, before heading back to the ship.
