Stavanger, Norway’s fourth-largest city is a charming blend of old and new. It became a leading commercial and industrial town in the 18th century, when its herring fisheries became advantageous for the town and canning factories flourished along with shipbuilding. Today, oil activities play a leading part in the town economy. You’ll begin your tour with a drive along the Dirdal River to Byrkjedalstunet, a rebuilt cheese factory from 1920 that houses a restaurant, a candle maker’s workshop and a variety of shops selling souvenirs and traditional handicrafts. Enjoy a tasting of local Norwegian pancakes and enjoy free time to explore the surroundings. You’ll then continue by bus to the nearby Gloppedalsure, a large screen that contains avalanche boulders. Afterwards, you will drive back to the city center of Stavanger, where you will see well-preserved wooden houses in narrow lanes. The homes date back to the 18th century and were built for seafaring people, craftsmen and businessmen. Take photos and enjoy this great view before heading back to the port.
