Retrace the region's turbulent and fascinating history in the frequently conquered village of Sagunto, which was founded as a Roman colony in 138 B.C. Enjoy a scenic drive northeast to Sagunto, an ancient village founded by the Greeks and captured by both the Carthaginians under Hannibal and the Romans, who battled over it during the Second Punic War. Evidence of Sagunto's many conquerors still remain and history abounds wherever you look. On your walking tour of the village, you'll wander through the narrow alleyways of the well-preserved Jewish quarter, passing its whitewashed houses and through several stone lancet arches. You'll also visit a national monument: a 6,000-seat Roman forum overlooking the sea. Enjoy some free time in order to further explore Sagunto or just relax in one of the many local bars. Then, you will visit a monasterio located in El Puig before returning to the ship.
